Lexicon context menu

The lexicon context menu can be found by opening the Lexicon Window, pointing at a word in the lexicon list which is of interest, and pressing the right-hand mouse button. The menu relates specifically to the word that you were pointing at when you pressed the button.

After a number of new words have been added to the lexicon, you may wish to check and delete them. Each new word added by the user (when they simply type a word not recognised, and when the Learn New Words preference is switched on) is marked in red as being a New Word, and as such may be prevented from prediction (with the Predict New Words option). You can change it from being New with the Approve word from this menu. It then becomes a normal word in the lexicon.

Alternatively, you may not like a new word which has been added; This would most probably be because it is wrongly spelt. In that case you can delete a word from the dictionary (regardless of whether it is a new word or not) by selecting Delete word from this menu. If you wish to add a word instead, please ensure that the system is willing to learn new words, then type it in another program preceded and followed by spaces.

You may also mark words never to be predicted. This is helpful if the user frequently makes the same spelling mistake. Simply removing the word from the lexicon would allow Penfriend to learn the word again in the future, but 'Never Predict' will ensure that it is never predicted even if they do type it repeatedly.

You may also prevent words ever being predicted by banning them. This is helpful if the user frequently makes the same spelling mistake. Simply removing the word from the lexicon would allow Penfriend to learn the word again in the future, but 'Banning' will ensure that it is never predicted even if they do type it repeatedly.

You can prevent prediction of words shorter than a certain length, and prevent prediction of newly learnt words, using the preferences dialogue box.

To view and edit the seriously detailed information that Penfriend stores about words, you may choose 'Properties' from the menu which leads to the word detail dialogue box.
